Association President

Kentuckians for Better Transportation is seeking a president to replace the current president who is retiring December 31. KBT provides education and advocacy for all modes of transportation, uniting leaders and citizens to achieve a safe and sustainable transportation system for improved economic development and quality of life.

KBT is a trusted source of information and a valued forum for examining critical transportation issues and needs throughout Kentucky. KBT is recognized for providing reliable, timely, and unbiased information and recommendations for transportation development. KBT has an active, engaged and diverse membership and is an aggressive advocate for sustainable resources to support and develop the state's vital infrastructure. Applicants should have 10 years of association management or equivalent business and/or government experience and have good writing and public speaking skills.

Executive Responsibilities:  The president has overall responsibility for the operation of KBT. The president's primary responsibilities include working with committees and board to ensure that goals and objectives are met; devising and executing membership retention and recruitment and capital-raising strategies, including sponsor development, to support the organization's operations; overseeing the budget and ensuring that resources are used properly and that programs are carried out as planned; and management and direction of staff.

Member Relations:  The president and board build and maintain positive relationships with members through open, regular communication. The president maintains liaison with member organizations; collaborates with the board and membership to encourage member "buy-in" and program ownership and participation; identifies and recruits volunteers for various programs where volunteers are needed; and, provides staff support for programs.

Public Relations:  The president serves as the primary spokesman (public "face") for the organization and is responsible for developing and executing the organization's education program to build public understanding of transportation issues; planning and conducting conferences and seminars to promote the organization's goals and objectives; researching and preparing materials for media campaigns; providing speeches and visual presentations for the organization's speaker's bureau and coordinating its activity.

Government Relations:  The president works with --
Executive branch officials and employees whose responsibilities relate to the organization's objectives;
Legislative leaders, appropriate committee chairmen and key staff people; and,
Kentucky Congressional Delegation and key staff people.
